Our Story

The same parts we use, are now available to you

A red classic Chevrolet Camaro SS with black racing stripes is parked outside an automotive repair shop, ready for car restoration by a skilled mechanic on a sunny day.

HRR began with founder Matt’s passion for speedway racing. In the early days, Matt spent his nights and weekends building speedway cars and repairing trucks, using his skills to fund his love for racing. As word spread and demand grew, what started as a part-time venture quickly evolved into something much bigger — building and preparing speedway cars for others.

Recognizing the opportunity, Matt turned his passion into a full-time business, and HRR was officially formed. Initially operating as a traditional mechanical workshop, HRR soon expanded its expertise into the world of automotive restoration. It all began with a Morris Minor Elite project, followed closely by a Barra-powered Fargo — and from there, the restoration projects only grew in size and ambition.

Today, HRR stands proud as both a trusted mechanical workshop and a specialist in mechanical restoration, combining technical precision with a deep respect for automotive history. Whether it’s everyday repairs, high-performance builds, or full-scale restorations, HRR brings passion, skill, and craftsmanship to every job.

Our Team

At HRR, our team is built on passion, skill, and a true love for all things mechanical. Every member of our crew brings hands-on experience, a commitment to quality, and the drive to keep learning and pushing boundaries. Whether it's everyday repairs, full restorations, or performance builds, you can trust that the people working on your vehicle treat every project like it's their own.

Matt

Founder & Lead Technician

Matt is the problem-solver behind HRR, with a mind that works like an open book — seeing every piece of the puzzle and knowing exactly how to put it together to create something great.

Starting his career in 2010 as a road transport apprentice, Matt quickly developed a deep mechanical knowledge that would later fuel his passion for motorsport and automotive restoration. His hobbies still revolve around the track, building and tuning his own speedway cars from the ground up — including full engine builds and fine-tuning for performance.

With a sharp eye for detail and a relentless drive for quality, Matt leads the HRR team with a hands-on approach and a commitment to doing things right.

Lachlan

Auto-Electrician

Lachie is HRR’s in-house auto electrician, bringing six years of experience with a strong focus on high-end performance builds. He specialises in designing and building premium wiring harnesses, delivering clean, precise electrical systems that meet the demands of serious horsepower and modern engine management.

Working across the workshop’s performance projects, Lachie plays a critical role in bringing complex builds to life — from custom wiring solutions to supporting engine conversions and standalone ECU setups. He is currently advancing toward dual trade qualification as a mechanic, giving him a deeper, all-round understanding of performance vehicles and allowing him to deliver complete, integrated solutions at a higher level.

Outside of the workshop, Lachie enjoys farming, and has a natural passion for anything mechanical or electrical. His attention to detail and performance-driven mindset make him a key part of the HRR team.

Jeff

Senior Technician & Servicing Specialist

Jeff has been a valued part of the HRR team for over five years, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. His specialty lies in wheel alignments — with a reputation for making even the notoriously tough 79 Series LandCruisers drive straight and their handbrakes work properly, a feat in itself!

Jeff oversees our servicing division, ensuring that daily drivers stay roadworthy, reliable, and safe. He’s known for spotting and fixing the small issues before they become big problems, helping our customers avoid costly repairs down the track.

Outside of work, Jeff is a true car enthusiast. He’s a regular at community car events and Cars & Coffee meets, and a passionate follower of the Supercars racing series.

Hannah

Administration & Parts Coordinator

Hannah is the first friendly face you’ll meet when you walk into HRR. Handling everything from customer enquiries to sourcing the right parts for each job, she keeps the office and workshop running smoothly behind the scenes.

Having been part of HRR since the very beginning, Hannah has learned the ins and outs of the business and built a strong knowledge of the parts and processes that keep our projects moving.

Outside of work, Hannah’s weekends are spent keeping the family organised and ready for the week ahead — a skill she brings into the workshop every day.
